Training for soil revegetation

A Research Training School (EFR) on the theme of health in a mining socio-ecosystem in Côte d’Ivoire was held from October 28 to November 2, 2024. The school was co-organized by the IRD GéoD (Georessources et Durabilité) and TerreSol knowledge communities.

The Research Training School (EFR) began in Abidjan, bringing together 12 Ivorian master’s and doctoral students, a post-doctoral fellow, and 18 teacher-researchers from Côte d’Ivoire and France. Coming from various disciplines in life sciences, earth sciences, and human and social sciences, they initiated trans- and interdisciplinary approaches. After presenting the context and issues and discussing the participants’ expectations, they went to Kokumbo, a mining village in central Côte d’Ivoire. This site is known for the revegetation of a gold mining site, launched in March 2023 by the Franco-Ivorian teams of the International Mixed Laboratory MINERWA (“For responsible mining in West Africa”).
