Abstract:
In ocean waters, methylated mercury (Hg) is similarly distributed between monomethyl- and dimethyl-Hg. While the former has been extensively studied due to its high bioaccumulating and biomagnifying tendencies, few have studied dimethyl-Hg, partly due to its infamy for being highly toxic and hard to handle. Therefore, our understanding of how this species influences the monomethyl-Hg abundance and human exposure to Hg through fish consumption remains poor.
